What Is the Employee Schedule Maker?
The Employee Schedule Maker is a free weekly staff scheduler that runs entirely in your browser — no account, no signup, nothing uploaded. Add your employees, then build the week on a Monday-to-Sunday grid: click any cell to add a shift with start and end times plus an optional note, and drag shifts anywhere — to a different day, a different employee, or into the Open Shifts row to leave them unassigned until someone claims them. Employee rows drag to reorder, every employee gets a color so shifts are easy to scan, and the grid totals hours per employee, per day and for the whole week automatically (overnight shifts that cross midnight are counted correctly). The schedule saves in your browser as you work, and when it is ready you can print it, copy it as text to paste into a group chat, or export a CSV for payroll.
How It Works
Add employees with the Add Employee box. Hover any day cell and click + Shift to create a shift, then click a shift to set its times and note. Drag shifts between cells to move them, drag the dots next to a name to reorder the roster, and park unassigned shifts in the Open Shifts row. Print, Copy as Text and Export CSV are in the toolbar.
When to Use It
Use it for restaurant and retail shift planning, small-team rotas, volunteer schedules, on-call rotations — anywhere you need a clear weekly grid without paying for scheduling software.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does my schedule get saved?
- Yes — it saves automatically to your browser's local storage on this device, so it is still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server, which also means it will not sync between devices; use Export CSV if you need to move it.
- How are overnight shifts counted?
- If a shift's end time is earlier than its start time (say 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM), it is treated as crossing midnight and counted as 8 hours on the day it starts.
- What are Open Shifts?
- Shifts nobody is assigned to yet. Build the coverage you need in the Open Shifts row, then drag each shift down onto an employee as people confirm availability. Removing an employee moves their shifts to Open Shifts instead of deleting them.
- Can I share the schedule with my team?
- Copy as Text produces a clean day-by-day list you can paste into a group chat or email, Print makes a posting-ready copy, and Export CSV opens in Excel or Google Sheets.
